Improv | Training & Performance ProgramS
In today’s commercial market, it is absolutely essential that an actor has improv training. Over the last five years, we have created a fully developed improv program for our youth, teen and adult actors. Currently, under the direction of Karla Dingle, a professional actor, improviser and University of Georgia Theater grad, AOS Improv is an affiliate of Queen City Comedy which provides numerous performance opportunities throughout Charlotte.
Our improv program provides our students with unique training and performance opportunities that closely follow the same core concepts and building blocks of short-form and long-form improv programs as Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Improv Olympic , while incorporating necessary acting technique for onscreen and stage performances. So whether you have a knack for comedy, looking to improve your auditions and callbacks, in need of artistic and creative motivation or hoping to build confidence, then be sure to register today!
Teen & Youth Improv ProgramS
Improvisation isn't just performing without a script; It's the art of embracing the moment. The art of listening and responding positively to the world around you. AOS Improv takes great pride in it's training and performance program as it not only prepares the actor for the audition, but we are teaching our students life skills to better themselves in the classroom, at the workplace, and at home.
Students will explore and learn the fundamentals of improv and gain a basic understanding of the "Yes, And..." principle.

ADULT IMPROV PROGRAM
We have created an improv curriculum and training program with incremental growth over 8 week courses. Our program allows adults to explore the fundamentals of improv through the forms. AOS Improv Levels are taught once a year beginning with Improv I in the Fall. Seasonal Workshops are offered to allow students to “catch up” in time to be ready for the next Level. Our Adult Improv program is only offered at our Charlotte Studio.
Improv Level I: Foundations of Improv
During this 8 week intensive, students will learn key concepts such as “Yes And,” collaboration, commitment, communication, environment and truth in comedy. No acting and/ or improv experience required.
Improv Level II: Heightening Relationships on Stage
This 8 week intensive explores the real meat and potatoes of the scene: the relationship. This intensive is a must for any actor and improviser ready to jump off the cliff and take things to the next level! Acting and/ or improv experience is required.
Improv Level III: Long Form Skills
During this 8 week intensive, students will learn the fundamentals of long form from edits to tag-outs to walk-ons to games. Then, put these skills to work in the Long Form formats. Improv experience required.
Audition Only Once a student has demonstrated the knowledge of the basic principles and successful application of those elements onstage, then we may invite them to audition for the performance level.
