Improv | Training and Performance Program
In today’s commercial market, it is absolutely essential that an actor has improv training. We are happy to announce that A.O.S. offers a fully developed improv program for our pre-teen, teen, and adult actors under the direction of Elizabeth Byland, a professional improviser and Improv Olympic (Chicago) alumni. Our improv program provides our students with a unique training and performance opportunity that closely follows the same core concepts and building blocks of short-form and long-form improv programs such as Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Improv Olympic; while incorporating necessary acting technique for onscreen and stage performances. So whether you have a knack for comedy, looking to improve your auditions and callbacks, in need of artistic and creative motivation, or hoping to build confidence, then be sure to register today!

Improv I, II, & Performance Team
Improvisation isn't just performing without a script; It's the art of embracing the moment. The art of listening and responding positively to the world around you. A.O.S. Improv takes great pride in it's training and performance program as it not only prepares the actor for the audition, but we are teaching our students life skills to better themselves in the classroom, at the workplace, and at home.
Improv I- Ages 9-12; High School; Adult
Improv II- Adult ONLY
Performance Teams: 9-12; High School; Adult
Improv I- Students will explore and learn the fundamentals of improv and gain a basic understanding of the "Yes, And..." principle. (Ages 9-12; High School; Adult)
Improv II- Currently offered to our adult students where they will begin to apply the basic techniques learned in Improv I, and incorporate new advanced scenic techniques that explore the relationship dynamic of the characters within the scene.
Performance Team- (Audition Only) Once a student has demonstrated the knowledge of the basic principles and successful application of those elements onstage, then we may invite them to audition for the performance level. Our performance teams are grouped based on style and personality. The performance teams are comprised of the funniest, most professional, determined, and talented performers our program has to offer! Each team has it's own form, making them unique from the other teams at our studio AND the Charlotte region. Our performance program is similar to that of Second City, Improv Olympic, UCB, etc. Our teams perform monthly in our state of the art- Black Box Theatre called, "The Basement."
